Health and Safety

An excellent health and safety record

Our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety is an absolute priority. We do this through extensive training, rigorous systems and excellent communication.

Our occupational health and safety management system is certified to OHSAS: 18001: 2007 and is accredited by the Construction Health and Safety Assessment Group, Constructionline and the Building Safety Group. Our commitment to continuous improvement has been recognised by a Gold RoSPA from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. The award not only recognises our excellent safety record but also our health and safety management systems and culture which include effective leadership and workforce engagement and commitment.

Director Neil Sherreard – a director of the Building Safety Group – drives our health and safety policy and procedures.

Year-on-year improvement

Throughout the business, we continually monitor and review our safety performance, benchmarking it against national figures and through our Balanced Scorecard and Board reports. This has resulted in a year-on-year incident reduction even as our workforce has grown significantly.

Our Health, Safety & Environmental Managers carry out spot checks at each of our construction sites at least once a fortnight. Senior management teams meet with the Health and Safety Team each month, with best practice guidance then communicated across the company through site manager and craftsmen meetings, toolbox talks, site inductions and our intranet. We aim to have 100 per cent CSCS card compliance on all our sites.

How we work

“The RoSPA Awards encourage the raising of occupational health and safety standards across the board. Organisations that gain recognition for their health and safety management systems such as Beard, contribute to a collective raising of the bar for other organisations to aspire to, and we offer them our congratulations.”
David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager.
