Big-hearted Beard staff raise £10.8k for three worthy causes
Caring staff at our Bristol office have raised £10,800 for three charities as part of our company-wide fundraising drive which raised £125,000 for regional charities in celebration of our firm’s 125th business anniversary last year.
The three charities – which each received a cheque for £3,598.25 – are BRACE, an Alzheimer’s research charity in Bristol; Children with Cancer UK and Jessie May, a children’s ‘hospice at home’ service in Bristol.
Staff at our Bristol office raised the money through a variety of fundraising activities in 2017, ranging from taking part in the Royal Marines’ 10k Courage Commando Challenge to holding bake sales and ‘dress down’ days at work.
Mike Hedges, our Beard’s Bristol director, says: “I am extremely proud of our whole Bristol team which has really come together to raise this money. Everyone put their heart and soul into fundraising for these three worthy charities which do so much good in our community. We’re delighted to help them.”
Money raised by our staff was matched by The Beard Charitable Foundation. The Foundation was set up in 2016 by the Beard family and provides funding support to Beard employees in their charitable and community pursuits across the South of England. It also makes grants of around £20,000 annually, as well as strategic donations to local charities for projects promoting construction industry careers.
Mark Poarch, chief executive of BRACE says: “It has been great for BRACE to have the enthusiastic support of one of the region’s most prestigious construction firms. Having heard first hand from them about their exploits, it is clear that they have been particularly energetic in their fundraising style, and they have done a grand job for us and the other charities they chose. The money they have raised for us will make a difference very soon, as our Trustees have several research applications to consider in May, any one of which could change the future for millions of people.”
Jason Rigby, Children with Cancer UK head of fundraising, says: “We’re delighted that Beard celebrated their 125th anniversary by raising vital funds for Children with Cancer UK and other charities. Their fantastic fundraising efforts have shown they really have gone the extra mile to fight the injustice of cancer in children. Through Beard’s support, Children with Cancer UK can continue to invest in cutting-edge new treatments like precision medicine that help to improve survival rates and offer kinder, less toxic treatment for young cancer patients – saving lives and keeping families together.”
Lindsey Horton, Jessie May corporate fundraising officer, says: “With so many great causes in our area we feel very privileged to have been chosen as one of three charities being supported by Beard. The support given means so much to a small charity like ours. The fact that there are companies like Beard who are willing to get so involved in the local community should be applauded and we are so grateful for the support they have given us.”All news
