Construction starts on expansion of Trosnant Infant and Junior Schools in Havant
Beard has started construction on a £3 million contract for Hampshire County Council to extend and refurbish the 420-place Federation of Trosnant Schools at Stockheath Lane, Havant, to meet rising pupil numbers in the area.
The project is due to be completed in autumn next year and will create an additional 210 pupil places.
Our Guildford team is building a brand-new wing for the Junior School at the south of the site with four state-of-the-art new classrooms, a library and a group room for special educational needs (SEN) activities. The energy-efficient junior extension, designed by the County Council’s Property Services team, will feature photovoltaic solar panels on the roof.
Our team will also build an extension to the Infant’s School at the north of the site, which will feature a new purpose-built classroom and a SEN group room for the Infant School. The former Children’s Centre, staff rooms, offices and reception area are currently being refurbished as early enabling works to facilitate the phasing of the main works. The scheme will also include enhancement work to the surrounding external areas, providing additional parking spaces, bike and scooter sheltered storage, improved play areas and outside landscaping.
“We are delighted to have been awarded this much-needed scheme which will help address the high demand for school places in the area”, says Gareth Phillips, Beard contracts manager. “Our project team is very experienced in working in ‘live’ environments and the construction works have been carefully planned with the schools and the Council to minimise disruption to classes. We are pleased to be working with Hampshire County Council on this important scheme and look forward to seeing these exciting new facilities take shape.”
