How We Work

An innovative construction approach

Innovation is at the heart of our continuous improvement strategy. By working innovatively, we speed up build times, cut costs and improve consistency for our customers.

Operational efficiency

The company has a number of management systems which drive innovation and improve operational performance. We use the Beard Alliance to integrate our supply chain, the Balanced Scorecard system to benchmark all aspects of the business and a performance management system ensures we are getting the best from our employees.

Lean construction delivery

We are strong advocates of lean construction to maximise value and minimise waste. In addition, we have led the way in off-site construction – which can deliver significant programme and cost savings – establishing strategic partnerships with specialist manufacturers.

Product selection

Our expert product knowledge is of major benefit to our customers. We have been early adopters of many energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly products such as ground source heat pumps, photovoltaics, automatic passive ventilation and rainwater harvesting systems.

Ongoing learning

Sharing knowledge is a key part of our commitment to innovation. Regular company-wide forums enable our people to discuss their experiences of new products and building methods.

How we work

Example of Building Information Modelling (BIM) an Innovative New Process

“Students and staff are delighted with our new facilities. The new Sixth Form Centre in particular, extends our ability to support students in the local community. Throughout the year long project Beard have been an exemplary construction partner. The team understand the needs of a busy school environment and a collaborative approach has enabled us to function normally without disruption.”
