Milestone for local prep school’s fab new swimming pool

The construction of a smart, new 25-metre, four-lane indoor swimming pool and spectators’ viewing gallery at Godstowe Preparatory School in High Wycombe has reached a milestone with the placing of the pool’s 14,200th and final tile.

Our team is building the £2.6 million competition-size pool to replace the school’s outdated 1970s facility which had become expensive and inefficient to operate and maintain. The new energy-efficient building will feature photovoltaic solar panels on the roof and LED lighting.

Designed by MorseWebb Architects to meet Sport England’s design specifications, the new facility – which has integrated showers and changing rooms – will enable 440 pupils aged between four and 11 to have weekly swimming lessons, become confident swimmers and compete with other schools.

“The project is progressing well and it’s wonderful to see the children’s excitement build as their fantastic new swimming pool takes shape. We are about three-quarters of the way through the project which is due for completion at the end of the year,” says Rob Nairn, our Beard contracts manager. We have employed local construction tradespeople to work on the scheme where possible.

Working on the swimming pool project is 30-year-old Aaron Harvey, who is currently studying for a BSc (Hons) degree in Construction Management with Southampton Solent University. Aaron spends one day a week at the university and the rest working on the Godstowe scheme, gaining essential construction management experience.

Sophie Green, headmistress at Godstowe, says: “We are thrilled about our new indoor swimming pool. The build has gone smoothly and, with the infrastructure now complete, we can really see what a wonderful facility it is going to be. Our pupils can’t wait to dive in.”
