  • Trowbridge Civic Centre 2

A new sustainable, high-specification Civic Centre for Trowbridge.

Project

This high quality, energy-efficient and sustainable Civic Centre building makes an impressive landmark for the town and was delivered on schedule and within budget. The project included an extensive renovation of the existing 1970s Lansdown Hall and the construction of a new two-storey extension that provides a range of new facilities. These include conference and function suites for weddings, parties and concerts with kitchens and a bar, a new information centre and café, as well as new council offices.

The new building incorporates sustainable features that will reduce running costs and increase energy efficiency, including, air source heat pumps for heating, with natural ventilation, and high levels of insulation. Alternative energy sources, such as solar power, can be added in the future if necessary.

Challenges

  • Completing the project within the Council’s demanding time frame
  • Complex project details

Solutions

Thorough planning and careful management of the numerous specialist sub-contractors ensured that the Council’s time frame was achieved, even with additional work requests. Beard chaired regular design team meetings to work through every detail of the scheme which ensured the project progressed smoothly.

Beard worked particularly well to identify savings and ensure additional work was completed within the original schedule, ensuring that sub-contractors were all on site at the right time to deliver a key project for Transforming Trowbridge.”
