New build sports hall and performing arts centre linked together by a two storey glazed reception area.
Eagle House is the primary school of the prestigious Wellington College. Beard constructed a steel framed sports hall and performing arts centre. The high ceilings provided a light and airy feel and combined with a full length mirrored wall, allow the space to be utilised as a dance hall. The hall provides flexibility for the school as folding doors can section off parts of the room. A biomass boiler was installed, making it the greenest boiler in the schools estate.
- Rigorous value engineering exercises to keep the project within budget. The scheme was developed on a two stage basis
- Getting the right sub contractors on board
- The school wanted the children to feel included in the project and to think of ways to engage with them
- Aftercare was important to the customer
Savings were achieved by omitting split levels in the building footprint.
Open book subcontractor tendering was jointly reviewed with the customer and the best value subcontractors were selected early in stage two after market testing.
The site staff gave guided tours to the pupils and hoardings were used to display the school art project.
The Beard project manager visits regularly to check performance of the building and for regular discussions with the bursar.
“Beard’s met our very high expectations regarding build quality and specification of our sports and performing arts hall and unquestionably exceeded in every other aspect of project management, solutions and health and safety.”
