A new sustainable youth accommodation lodge commissioned by The Scout Association to mark the Youlbury Scout Centre’s centenary.
In celebration of the Youlbury Scout Centre’s centenary, Beard was commissioned to build a new single-storey accommodation lodge. The secluded building is made up of a communal area, kitchen, eight ensuite bedrooms and 36 bedrooms. Some of the new features available to the Scouts include state-of-the-art audio visual facilities including a Freesat system, projector and motorised screen plus future provision for a Wi-Fi data network. New sustainable solutions have been incorporated into the building, including a rain water harvesting tank and a wind catcher in the main hall.
- Difficult ground conditions due to the scheme being sited on an ancient river bed
A local archaeologist identified the construction site as an ancient river bed so a large-scale crane was used to avoid impacting and damaging the unstable section of the site. Metal tracked machinery, meticulous site cleanliness plus evening and weekend working ensured the project was delivered on time.
“Adventure is at the heart of scouting and having this great new accommodation block will give the opportunity for thousands more young people from schools, scout groups or other youth organisations to experience the adventures and activities on offer at Youlbury Scout Activity.”
