The design and build of a new single storey primary school in Swindon.
Holy Cross Primary will act as a feeder school for the new comprehensive that was built 200 metres away.
Working closely with the architect, we designed and built a modern functional single storey space of 2000sqm. It has a timber frame, a metal standing seam roof, internal exposed Kerto engineered timber beams, and underfloor heating cast into the concrete slab. Other features include coloured cladding and aluminium windows.
- Located on a busy main road
- Phased handover
- Additional works were added to the contract
Deliveries were scheduled and a banksman was used to guide lorries in and out of site.
We implemented a phased handover so the school could access critical rooms in the summer holidays. This meant out of hours working. We ensured the staff had a proportion of the car park so we moved our working area to free up this space.
Additional Section 278 works were accommodated, including blockpaving footpaths, remodeling a layby, lowering fibre optic cables and creating a 250m footpath from Holy Cross school to the neighbouring academy.
“We are impressed by Beard’s professionalism; this high quality project was launched with challenging timescales.”
