A new build two-storey multi- purpose classroom block for use in the independent school.
A leading independent secondary school in Bath required us to build a new block for general purpose teaching, offering the pupils a modern, light space to learn in.
The timber frame building was clad on one side with Bath stone to blend in with the surrounding buildings. On the other side, we clad the building with dark brick creating a feature wall. Welsh slate was used on the roof. The building featured floor to ceiling powder coated windows which created beautiful views over the city of Bath and surrounding landscape.
It took six operatives, clear communication between them, hired specialist equipment and adapting the scaffold to manoeuvre the glass panes into position.
We used two banksman to guide deliveries; one at the front of the lorry, one at the back. Strict delivery times were necessary to avoid interference with parent drop offs and pick ups.
We held regular meetings with the school to brief them on our works.
Because of their size, we required an exceptionally large crane to lift the pre-cast concrete slabs over a row of trees. To complete this in a safe and practical way, the adjoining road had to be closed for a period of time and carried out in the school holidays.
We kept neighbours informed via leaflet drops during the various stages of the project.
“Working with Beards was an absolute pleasure – they really understood the need for sensitivity with a building project in the middle of a busy working school. The site foreman was outstanding and managed the whole programme with the utmost professionalism. We were even able to hold examinations in the classroom block adjacent to the building site! The end result speaks for itself and Beards have been back on site whenever needed to sort out any minor issues.”
