Where we started

Little could our founder, Edward William Beard, know when he started working for his father in the summer of 1892, at the humble age of 14, that Beard would become the respected company it is today, turning over £160m and employing more than 300 people across four regional offices.

Today, led by the fourth generation of the Beard family, Mark Beard, the assets we have built over many years - our skills and knowledge, supply chain partners, systems, tools and technology - are brought to every project, alongside a commitment to excellence and a people focused ethos.

We're proud to have held Investors in People Gold Accreditation since 2011, and Gold for Health and Wellbeing since 2022. Our people first approach enables career development and personal growth. Underpinning these efforts, we manage a renowned trainee programme and empower people to ask questions, ensuring we’re a business fit for the future.

One of the most positive aspects of this review revolved around the perception that Beard is a really good place to work. People remarked on the friendly, family atmosphere within the organisation.
