Year In Industry

Beard is a large, regional, main contractor, where you will have the opportunity to work on unique and exciting developments, up to a value of £30m, gaining experience across entire projects and throughout the value chain before completing the final year of your construction degree.

We have a proven history of training and developing new entrants to the industry to build successful and rewarding careers in the built environment, including some of our present directors and senior managers.

We are a 130 year old, family-owned business with a people-first culture, the perfect place to start your career in construction

At Beard, you will meet colleagues and receive support, guidance and mentorship from people across the business, including our leadership team.

By the end of your placement you will be working independently under the supervision of your manager. At this point, it is not unusual for year out students to provide holiday cover and assume additional responsibilities.

Many students who have spent a placement year with us return to university with an offer of employment after graduation.

A placement year is critical for bringing together your knowledge and understanding of academic teaching on live sites.

It’s excellent preparation for your final year of learning, and provides valuable experience to boost your employability on graduation.
