Beard partners with Abingdon & Witney College to support future construction talent

Construction students in Oxford will gain direct on-site work experience, thanks to a partnership between family-owned business Beard Construction and Abingdon & Witney College.

We are pleased to announce our support of the T-Level Technical Qualification in Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction, supporting the full student cohort for the two-year duration of their course.

Starting in the 2025/26 academic year, it forms part of our ongoing commitment to nurturing the next generation of construction professionals.

The partnership will see our colleagues provide hands-on opportunities for students to join them on construction sites across Oxfordshire to help to develop their practical skills, including on the RAAC remediation project at the College’s Witney Campus.

We’re passionate about developing the next generation of construction professionals at Beard, and partnering with Abingdon & Witney College on their construction course means we can directly engage and support future talent. We are looking forward to working alongside the College’s colleagues to deliver training and opportunities in a variety of ways to inspire young talent and equip them with the practical skills and personal confidence to build rewarding careers in construction.

Dean Averies, Oxford Director

Students will be invited to meet the Beard team and join a culture and values talk where they will have the opportunity to discuss their career aspirations and perceptions of the industry.

Beard plans to host regular breakfast meetings with the students, led by Dean Averies and senior colleagues, to offer ongoing senior team support and wider engagement opportunities.

Beard’s partnership will give our students invaluable real-world experience and industry insight, bridging the gap between classroom learning and professional practice. This collaboration is a fantastic opportunity to prepare our students for successful careers in the construction sector.

Neil Benjamin-Miller, Head of Faculty for Construction at Abingdon & Witney College

For young people looking to begin a career in construction and the built environment, the T-Level course is a high-quality, work-focused alternative to A-Levels, offering new routes to employment, apprenticeships, or further learning, combining academic study with practical experience. Inspiring and developing young talent is at the heart of Beard’s ethos, demonstrated by its long-standing commitment to hosting year-in-industry students, work experience placements, and construction trainees.
