We are extremely proud to have played a key role in two projects in Oxford that have been recognised at the 2025 RIBA South Awards: the transformation of Rhodes House and The Jackson Library at Exeter College.
These prestigious awards by the Royal Institute of British Architects highlight the dedication, craftsmanship, and collaboration that go into the UK’s best architectural projects.
The Rhodes House renovation by Stanton Williams revitalised a Grade II* listed Arts and Crafts building into a vibrant hub for an educational charity. Our team worked closely with the architects to preserve the building’s historic character while integrating modern features for full functionality.
The project required meticulous attention to detail to ensure that new additions blended with the original structure. The RIBA jury commended the “significant but respectful interventions” and commented that “the spiral staircase is a feat of engineering and craft”.

The Jackson Library took home a remarkable four accolades: the RIBA South Award, RIBA South Project Architect of the Year, RIBA South Conservation Award, and RIBA South Building of the Year.
This project by Nex, in collaboration with Donald Insall Associates, has transformed a deteriorating library into a light-filled, robust space for study, combining sensitive heritage repairs with contemporary interventions.
The jury praised the project’s impressive finish, commenting that “the refurbishment prioritised reuse and conservation to minimise embodied carbon and enhance environmental performance and user comfort.”
