We’re pleased to have hosted our first ‘foundations and futures’ event, bringing together all construction trainees, T-Level students, year-in-industry participants and a work experience student from across our regional offices.
Twelve trainees from Bristol, Swindon, Guildford, Oxford and Southampton came together for a day of learning, collaboration and networking.
The event aimed to nurture collaboration between colleagues at similar stages of their careers, giving them a support network beyond their regional offices.
After introductions and ice-breakers, including an entertaining ‘helium stick’ team building challenge, the group enjoyed a range of sessions designed to develop their knowledge and build connections.
Attendees were challenged to deliver a mini ‘construction crisis’ presentation, working in small groups, as well as discovering what type of learners they are through the Insights methodology, which should help them to enhance their learning both in the workplace and in the classroom.
Our thanks to the team at KOREC , suppliers of specialist surveying and measurement equipment to the industry, who led the group in a surveying session around our Bristol Office, Langford Lodge. KOREC introduced our team to LiDAR scanners, which deliver high precision 3D surveying. With technology evolving so quickly and shaping the way to approach our work, it was valuable to learn about the application of technology in construction.
The event was led by Bev Parfitt, our social value co-ordinator in Bristol, who drew on her background in education to deliver an engaging and supportive event.

The 12 attendees, who are all undertaking placements across our offices, represented a wide range of roles, including quantity surveying, construction project management, mechanical engineering and architecture.
