On 22 November 2023, The Architects’ Journal announced the 24 winners of the 2023 AJ Architecture Awards in categories ranging from Civic to Workplace, Culture to Refurb and Housing to Leisure. The gala event was held at the Hilton Metropole in London, where guests from across the industry celebrated the architecture community's finest achievements.
We are delighted to see White Eagle Lodge recognised with two awards, Design of the Year and Best Community and Faith Building over £2m.
Design of the Year was one of three special prizes this year, alongside Architect of the Year and the Editor’s Choice award, drawn from the other category winners and chosen by the AJ editorial team to honour exceptional projects and practices. The Manser Medal – AJ House of the Year category honouring the very best in domestic design of an individual dwelling was also announced on the night.

Assessing sustainability and building performance was key to the process. From an evaluation of the project’s whole-life carbon to its approach to biodiversity and future adaptability.
All projects in this year’s awards were completed between January 2022 and July 2023. Every shortlisted building was visited by an expert panel of judges, who rigorously assessed them against a wide range of criteria. These included design quality from the use of materials and detailing to spatial ‘delight’, build quality, programme, user experience, and contribution to their content or neighbourhood.
We would like to extend our thanks to the judges for their recognition and to the sponsors who made it possible.
