Guildford team receives Social Value award

Heartfelt social value rewarded by Procure Partnerships

We’re delighted to have received an Innovative Social Value Initiative of the year award, in recognition of widespread activities delivered through a number of construction projects in Surrey.

The Procure Partnerships Framework supports public sector bodies to deliver their strategic targets, and their inaugural Social Value Awards have commended the achievements of their framework partners across the country over the past 12 months.

Director Pat Hughes accepted the accolade on behalf of our Guildford office.

It recognises the positive social outcomes achieved by our site teams working at Epsom Children's Home, Walton on Thames Children’s Home and Shaw Family Contact Centre.

We’re thrilled have been able to make a real difference through the delivery of these projects, both on and off site. As a family-run business with a people first ethos, it’s important to us to deliver more than our contracted services. Leaving a positive legacy in the communities where we work in part of our history and our culture at Beard.

Among the activities were a £1,500 donation for a family fun event; the creation of a wish tree featuring the hopes, dreams and wishes of children for the future; and the gifting of a hard hat, toy digger and Beard-branded hi-vis jacket for an autistic child who regularly passed the site at Shaw Family Contact Centre with his nan, showing great interest and engaging enthusiastically with the site team.

Throughout the last year, contractors across the framework have gone above and beyond to meet their social value targets. Through early engagement, we have seen a real increase in the planning and delivery of social value commitments on a national level. Since introducing our Collaborative Working Groups whereby Contractors who would usually be competitors, come together in sub-groups to deliver non-project specific social value for their region, we can see the importance of hosting an awards event dedicated to it-to recognise those leading the way.

Working in partnership with Surrey County Council, our Guildford office has worked on five separate schemes as part of a Capital Build Programme, designed to improve key services for some of the region’s most vulnerable groups.

The designs are contemporary and the use of robust, high quality materials will reduce the need for maintenance. Where possible, options have been chosen based on environmental credentials and thermal performance.
