Throgmorton SEND

Bristol

Refurbishment of existing building to provide additional pupil places.

THE PROJECT

Throgmorton was part of the SEND Wave 2 Capital programme. The capital programme received Cabinet Authority in September 2022 to spend £14.9m on developing the demand for special educational needs provision in Bristol. This funding is met from High Needs grant allocations provided by the DfE and will provide long-term value for money as less children will have to travel out of their local communities to attend school. The SEN designation of the provisions will be to support the needs of children who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The resource bases will receive children with SEN from the local area, not limited to the school’s mainstream catchment.

The project at Throgmorton House will provide circa 46 additional pupil places for SEND provision in the Bristol City Council region. The works consisted of the complete refurbishment of the existing building, previously used by the NHS, although the building was originally built as a primary school in 2004. The building works were completed while the adjacent nursery was live and all services were maintained to this section of the building.
