Discoveries in the ground
The site is an ex-naval base and during groundworks we discovered nine high voltage cables and unearthed an ex-steam heating main. These had to be treated with care until they were identified. The high voltage cables belonged to a nearby substation, these were added to the construction drawings and then our services were routed around them. The historic steam main was more complicated because none of the land owners or tenants knew what the purpose of the pipe was. After we identified it, we sought permission to excavate and dispose of it.
