THE PROJECT
Beard were appointed by Surrey County Council through the Procure Partnership Framework to provide the expansion works at St Paul’s Catholic College.
The works consisted of the erection of a new standalone four court sports hall with associated changing and storage facilities, three new extensions to the existing science block, one extension to the south building, major internal refurbishment and landscaping.
The new facilities will provide the school with the additional spaces required to grow by 1FE and also increase their 6th Form Capacity.
The Sports hall consisted of a steel frame, cladding, timber floor and associated sports equipment. The extensions provided around the school were built traditionally with brick and block and flat roofs.

KEY FACTS
- Over £800,000.00 was achieved in our social value by local employment and the appointment of local supply chain members.
- The expansion provided spaces for 50 more students.
- No lost time was encountered by the school through our activities due to the planning of our works.
- Due to the location of the works around the school we created three site compounds to minimise construction traffic.
- Due to the access restrictions and schools travel plan we had to introduce a haul road to the rear of the site to avoid disruption.
- Working in multiple locations around the school simultaneously - Careful planning and clear communication with the school ensured the works were able to be carried out safely and efficiently.
- Providing 4 extensions to live classrooms - We ensured our construction methods reduced noise and planned breakthroughs to be carried out at half term.
